On September 25, the world's largest coal-fired power carbon capture demonstration project successfully completed its 72-hour trial operation in Gansu and was officially put into service. It can capture 1.5 million tons of carbon dioxide annually, equivalent to processing the annual carbon emissions of 600,000 vehicles. All its technologies and equipment are domestically produced.
The project innovatively adopts a "two towers integrated" design for composite absorption towers, which deeply integrates flue gas prewashing and carbon capture processes. This addresses the energy consumption issues of long conveying routes and high resistance in traditional processes. Multiple energy-saving technologies including rich liquid split flow and intermediate circulating cooling are applied to maximize heat utilization and deliver remarkable overall energy-saving effects.
The project utilizes self-developed novel absorbent solvents that can efficiently capture carbon dioxide from low-concentration flue gas and greatly cut energy consumption for carbon capture. The newly developed internals for towers can substantially improve the overall performance of composite absorption towers. The self-developed absorbent purification equipment purifies absorbent solvents, effectively extending their service life and lowering carbon capture costs.
According to introductions, this carbon capture demonstration project also features an operation mode with auxiliary peak regulation capacity. It can dynamically adjust the load of the carbon capture system, enabling coal-fired power units to conduct large-scale carbon capture while maintaining flexible regulation capacity, so as to guarantee the safe and stable supply of electric power.
